Midwifery Care

BC Registered Midwife.

Midwives are experts in healthy pregnancy and birth. We offer care for all families, providing primary care during the childbearing year through pregnancy, birth and postpartum.

Midwifery care is based on the understanding that childbearing is a healthy progression through the life cycle. Midwives uphold pregnancy and childbirth as a state of health that is a normal physiological process, and a profound event in a person’s life.

Pregnancy

Midwives get to know you through primary pregnancy care. Our visits are typically 30 - 60 minutes, allowing adequate time for physical, emotional and social health assessments, while enabling the development of a trusting relationship between you and your midwives. We provide evidence based care to help you make informed decisions about your pregnancy. BC Midwives are covered by MSP and offer all standard prenatal tests and ultrasounds.

Birth

Midwives support healthy, low-risk people to make empowered, safe decisions about where to give birth. We work collaboratively with other health professionals whenever needed. Whether you choose to give birth at home or hospital, we provide research-based information to help inform your decisions.

Postpartum

After birth, midwives provide ongoing postpartum care for you and your newborn for the first 6-8 weeks. The first few visits usually take place at your home. Midwives monitor the health and recovery of you and baby, provide newborn feeding education and support, and provide guidance and encouragement on the start of your new parenting journey physically and emotionally.

Coaching

As a trauma informed coach, Crystal applies professional coaching skills combined with expertise from her work as a midwife and doula with over 20 years of supporting people through major life transitions. Crystal’s goal is to facilitate a safe container for you to explore and discover your full potential. Coaching can be a powerful tool used to bring to light a desire, to reach a specific goal, to unpack blocks in creativity, to move through an emotional experience, to address a personal or professional communication, behaviour or relationship issue, and many other life circumstances.

The International Coach Federation (ICF) defines life coaching as “partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential.”

Coaching is a collaborative relationship between a trained coach and a client looking for self-discovery, self-awareness and a deeper sense of satisfaction and fulfillment. While coaching is not specifically therapy, the process can be incredibly therapeutic!

Coaching happens in an environment where clients can freely express their emotions, be profoundly heard, manage their internal blocks, clarify their intentions and desires, and become more self-directed.

Compassionate Inquiry

As a Compassionate Inquiry trainee, Crystal applies this psychotherapeutic approach to coaching and therapy sessions to help you uncover hidden blocks and barriers to help you access your true Essence.

What Is Compassionate Inquiry®?

Dr. Gabor Maté developed the Compassionate Inquiry® psychotherapy approach, which reveals what lies beneath the appearance we present to the world.

Using the Compassionate Inquiry system, both the individual and therapist unveil the level of consciousness, mental climate, hidden assumptions, implicit memories and body states that form the real message that words both express and conceal.

Through the therapist’s use of the Compassionate Inquiry approach, the client can recognize the unconscious dynamics that run their lives and how to liberate themselves from them.

The purpose of the Compassionate Inquiry is to drill down to the core stories people tell themselves – to get them to see what story they are telling themselves unconsciously; what those beliefs are, where they came from; and guide them to the possibility of letting go of those stories, or letting go of the hold those stories have on them

That’s what Compassionate Inquiry is.”

“Your conflicts, all the difficult things, the problematic situations in your life are not chance or haphazard. They are actually yours. They are specifically yours, designed specifically for you by a part of you that loves you more than anything else. The part of you that loves you more than anything else has created roadblocks to lead you to yourself. You are not going in the right direction unless there is something pricking you in the side, telling you, “Look here! This way!” That part of you loves you so much that it doesn’t want you to lose the chance. It will go to extreme measures to wake you up, it will make you suffer greatly if you don’t listen. What else can it do? That is its purpose.”
